Sierra Monolithics WiMAX RF Transceiver IC Incorporated Into Volume Shipments of Alvarion's BreezeMAX™ PRO CPE

REDONDO BEACH, CA -- Sierra Monolithics (SMI), a leading supplier of high frequency mixed signal ICs and modules for the wireless and telecommunication industries, today announced the completion of the first quarter of volume shipments of SMI's RF transceiver chip as a important component of Alvarion's BreezeMAX PRO, its WiMAX customer premise equipment.

BreezeMAX™ is Alvarion's award-winning WiMAX platform. It was designed from the ground up in accordance with IEEE 802.16-2004 standards using OFDM technology for advanced non-line-of-sight (NLOS) functionality. Its carrier-class design supports broadband speeds and quality of service to enable carriers to offer multiple broadband voice data and services to thousands of subscribers in a single base station.

Sierra Monolithics' WiMAX RFIC, the SMI7035, is a single chip dual band transceiver that makes possible the manufacture of low-cost customer premise equipment Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) applications. This product has been designed to be supportive of WiMAX compliant products. SMI7035 is a dual band transceiver incorporating full receive and transmit paths, with on-board synthesizers and VCOs. The transceiver tunes over the 2.3 to 2.7 GHz and 3.3 to 3.8 GHz bands, incorporating the majority of frequencies used by WiMAX applications worldwide.
